Xpert Driver Training has put together a course to address the needs of the growing number of drivers on the road unused to driving in the UK. 

Xpert driver training UK familiarisation courseThe UK Familiarisation course is designed to introduce overseas drivers to driving in the UK and helps to familiarise them with UK driving conditions.

The course provides a structured introduction to driving in the UK and includes our UK Familiarisation Pack.

Following an initial on-road assessment* a number of key objectives are agreed specific to individual needs.

  • Proven to increase driver confidence and improve understanding of driving in UK 
  • Demonstrates commitment to driver safety and Duty of Care

Course Summary:

  • Overview of the ‘Highway Code’
  • The laws governing driving on British roads
  • The basic principles of driving on British roads
  • Safety Checks: eyesight, vehicle checklist, vehicle set up, seats, mirrors, headrest etc
  • Road signs and markings
  • UK familiarisation course driving signsManoeuvring
  • Familiarity with driving RHD vehicle, parking and reversing
  • Speed limits
  • Procedures at roundabouts and crossings
  • Negotiating junctions and pedestrian crossings
  • Reference to the misuse of mobile phones, the use of drugs and alcohol whilst driving and hints and tips on the safest places to park.
  • Motorway driving
  • General defensive driving principles and techniques
  • Debrief

UK Familiarisation Pack

Prior to the practical driving session we will provide the pupil with our UK Familiarisation Pack, which is theirs to keep and refer to. 

Visitors from certain countries are only eligible to drive in the United Kingdom for 12 months before they have to take and pass the British driving test, whilst other Licences are interchangeable for a UK Licence - if in doubt contact us for further information.

* Prior to taking the UK Familiarisation course we will require each driver to take a 1 hour assessment drive to enable Mike to establish general driving levels.
