  • Turn off the engine if stationary for mor than a minute or two.
  • Check tyre pressures at least every 2 weeks. Under inflated tyres increase fuel consumption.
  • Only half fill the fuel tank, more weight means less economy.
  • Don't carry excess luggage in the boot.
  • Stick to speed limits, 56mph instead of 70mph uses 25% less fuel.
  • Plan well ahead, harsh acceleration and braking uses upto 30% more fuel and increases wear and tear on the vehicle.
  • Parking in the shade minimises fuel evaporation evaporation and reduces the need for air conditioning to be used.
  • Reverse into parking bays. Driving smoothly away without a high revving manoeuver, especially when the engine is cold, saves fuel.
